Miss Guatemala Statement on Project Runway

I've been very interested in the latest season of Project Runway because my friend from Cleveland Institute of Art is currently a designer on the show this season. I've had a hard time getting into the show before but from what I've heard this really is one of the best seasons.

The recent comments by Nina Garcia really troubled me because it was so thoughtless and hurtful to call out someone's nationality as a basis for why a design would be bad. It seems counter-intuitive that a show that embraces and cherishes individuality would be so careless in allowing their judge's comments to include critic that has anything to do with their race, gender, and ethnicity. I was deeply disappointed to say the least.

However, I know that Nina Garcia will be receiving many letters and e-mails on the topic so I hope that she apologies in the next show.

Goodwill Hunting

I'm a huge Goodwill fan and I have been for years. I remember in high school finding an old Chanel tweed jacket at Goodwill and boy have I kicked myself for years that I didn't buy that one.
My recommendation is to go to the Goodwill's in the most affluent neighborhood. These are usually treasure troves full of very gently used designer labels such as 7 for All Mankind jeans, Armani, DKNY, Tory Burch, and lots of work separates. Lately I've seen people who own their own resale shops hunting around at places like this... but you can cut out the middle man by just going yourself. I know many people don't like to hunt and have to look through lots of "trash" to find the diamond in the rough but in these economic times I think it is really worth your time.

Being hard on my shoes and clothing Goodwill is great because I don't feel guilty if ketchup ruins a top or if I don't want to invest in a trendy item but finding one at Goodwill allows me to totally experiment and if I don't like it... you guessed it... I give it back to Goodwill. It's amazing. :-)

My latest finds have been a Tory Burch top, Diane Von Fursenberg dress, Joie dress, and so much more.

Happy Hunting!
